RIVERS participó en la escuela de verano «El malestar en el extractivismo: movimientos artísticos y de contracultura».
La escuela de verano tiene como objetivo realizar un intercambio internacional e interdisciplinario sobre las sociedades en las economías productoras de materias primas y la interconexión entre el Sur global y Europa. La reflexión se centrará en América Latina y más concretamente en su diversidad ecológica y en su larga experiencia (post)colonial de extracción de recursos y se llevará a cabo en el marco artístico-discursivo de documenta fifteen en Kassel, Alemania.

LASA 2022 Panel: Pueblos indígenas, Estado-Capital y extractivismo hídrico: un análisis multinivel de las disputas por el agua en Guatemala.

En este panel se realizó un análisis crítico e interdisciplinario de la interconexión de los diferentes escenarios de conflictividad – nacional y local – generada por el control del agua en Guatemala.
LASA 2022 – Mesa de discusión: Seguridad, desarrollo y territorio: reflexiones críticas sobre la violencia del Estado-Capital Racial.
Organizan: Las Investigadores Principales Lieselotte Viaene de RIVERS-ERC y Silvia RodrÍguez Maeso – de POLITICS-ERC.
En esta Mesa se propuso debatir sobre cómo las jerarquías raciales han modelado los entendimientos dominantes de seguridad y desarrollo para el control de territorios y lo que se constituye como “recursos humanos” y “naturales” en espacios urbanos y rurales. Se propuso pensar las conexiones y afinidades que se dan en los ámbitos del derecho, el sistema de justicia y las políticas públicas en los campos de intervención de la “seguridad ciudadana” y la “economía extractivista”, cruciales para comprender la reproducción de la vocación genocida del Estado-Capital racial.

El jueves 28 de enero de 2021 Ramiro Ávila Santamaría, profesor de Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar y juez de la Corte Constitucional de Ecuador, participó en el Seminario Permanente Jesús G. Amuchastegui para debatir su libro: La utopía del oprimido. Los derechos de la Pachamama (Naturaleza) y el Sumak Kawsay (buen vivir) en el pensamiento crítico, el derecho y la literatura (2019, Akal).

RIVERS Principal Investigator, Lieselotte Viaene, and Digno Montalván, RIVERS associate pre doctoral researcher, took part on the 9th Annual International Conference on Rights of Nature for Peace and Sustainable Development in the frame of the Geneva Forum. Lieselotte Viaene presented an overview of the objectives and expected results of RIVERS and Digno Montalván focused on «Anthropocentrism and ecocentrism in the jurisprudence of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights».

Bergen Exchanges 2019

Can we develop new ways of thinking about water beyond the modern divides of nature/culture, and reconceptualising human rights? The coordinator of RIVERS Lieselotte Viaene and post doctoral researcher Marta Rica Izquierdo presented the project during this year Bergen Exchanges on Law and Social Transformation. The main themes for Bergen Exchanges 2019 were Natural Resources, Corruption, Indigenous Rights and Law and Technology.
